My search for pottery or stoneware bakers started when my glass (household name) baker literally exploded on the countertop. I removed if from a 400 degree oven, and set it on a wood surface. Luckily, I had stepped away when I heard an explosion, and there sat my cassarole atop a pile of shards.
I did a lot of research: I wanted a ceramic, stoneware or pottery baker line that had a very durable finish, would endure high temperatures (such as broiling), and I wanted it to look good on the table. This well designed line of bakeware does all this and more. It is one of the few (only) sets that is rated for brioling. It can go from the freezer to the oven (just put it in as you heat up the oven for a smooth temperature transition). They are even dishwasher safe! I have owned and used standard stoneware and pottery pieces, and if they have internal flaws, they too can crack under heat. I LOVE the ceramic, which is actually a commercial quality highly refined stoneware. It is very heavy, heats evenly, and has a very solid feel. I have owned several pieces of this Cuisinart bakeware (in blue) for over 2 years. They endure heavy use beautifully. Another big plus is the deeply set handles, which give you a great gripping surface. After looking at several brands, I really liked the bold colors and pure white interiors of the Cuisinart. They even come in solid white for the purist :) The finish is a high gloss, vitrious china glaze that doesn't scratch or nick. The finish makes them VERY easy to clean even messiest baked on goo wipes down easily. After using these for several years, I couldn't imagine living without them. These are a must have for even a basic kitchen, and worth every penny.
