Ok, so I've had my oven for a couple months now, and I finally have some time to sit a write a review...
Just so you know, I purchased mine from my local Costco. It was in their coupon book for 20.00 off their regular 99.00 price, so it only cost me 80 bucks. But, even if I had paid full price for it, that would still have been a good deal. I think it's well worth the money.
Prior to this, I had an Oster toaster oven that I liked very much. I had it for over 2 years, and it always did a great job. Eventually the door stopped closing all the way, so I decided to upgrade to this Cuisinart. Honestly, I wasn't sure I would like the new one as much, because the other one always served me so well, and it made wonderful toast. But, I finally took the plunge.
First, this makes amazing toast. It toasts even better than my prior toaster did, which I didn't expect was all that possible, and it does it in less time, so I'm very pleased about that. There are settings that adjust the heat and time according to how many slices you put in, and whether it's thin like toast or thicker like bagels. I have found the different settings work really well, and are quite accurate. Each time I was surprised how perfectly toasted my bread would turn out. I experimented with varying numbers of regular sliced bread, gourmet bread, bagels, and waffles, and each time it did a great job. Also, if the oven is already hot and you put something in, it automatically adjusts the time for that. It's very accurate, and I've been quite impressed so far.
I have also experimented with the regular baking, and the convection baking. Both work wonderfully, and cook quickly. I like using the convection settings for things like chicken strips and tater tots, because they always come out nice, brown, and crunchy. I've also cooked hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, chicken, fish fillets, etc. And I haven't been disappointed yet. I'm always impressed with how quickly and easily it handles everything, and the temperatures are very accurate. Also, the oven operates quietly. I'm impressed by how quiet it is compared to my prior one.
Another thing I really like about this machine is how well built it seems. The door hinges are strong and sturdy, and the broiler pan and rack that come with it are very thick and sturdy. I'm impressed by the quality, and fully expect it to last a long time. The controls are fairly intuitive and simple to operate.
I do have four very small nit-picks. These are not deal-breakers by any means, but they are things I would change if it were up to me...
As many have said, this oven gets VERY hot. Obviously, it's an oven, and one should expect that, so you can't complain too much. But, it is worth mentioning, so do be careful; it is definitely hotter than any toaster oven I've had before, so be sure it's set back on the counter away from a child's reach. The glass door gets scalding hot, so when you open the door, make sure to use just the handle, and not touch your knuckles to the door at all. That doesn't happen to me often, but once in a while it can happen by accident.
This oven does not have hooks that pull the rack out when you open the door. I really miss that feature. So, after the door is down, you have to pull the racks out yourself. I keep a fork handy to do just that. And I keep thinking I might get an 'Ove-Glove' for that purpose. The racks will slide out easily, but it's too hot to try and quickly do it by hand, so you have to have something.
Also, the broiler pan sits in place, and fits very snugly onto the rack. So, when you pull the rack out and want to slide the broiler pan off, you can't. You have to lift the broiler pan slightly. This is a pain, because of the design and how snugly it fits. You definitely need a pair of hot pads. It's not that easy to do single handedly, as the broiler pan is quality and heavy.
And lastly, the beeping sounds the oven makes to notify you, are very loud and irritating. It will beep four times, loudly, to let you know the oven is warmed up and has reached the set temperature. Then, if you use the timer, it will beep loudly again when the timer runs out. And you can't interrupt the beeps. You have to wait for them to finish. They are MUCH louder than they need to be. (Although once or twice when I was in the other room and forgot it was on, I was glad for the extra loud noise)
As I said, these are minor complaints, but things you will notice after a while. I would change them if I could, but it wouldn't stop me from buying this oven again. So, I hope that helps...
