Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker

Customer Review: Developed leaks
Summary: 1 Stars

I was happy with this unit until it started leaking after about a year to 18 months of use.
It's put together with security-head screws (star torx with center post) which is the only tool I don't have - thus, cannot even attempt to fix.

Not a good value considering its short life.

Customer Review: Noticeable better coffee!
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this @ Costco for $49, Noticeable difference with durability, function, and quality of coffee from our old "Mr Coffee" machine. The filter does make a difference, even if you were using filtered water before. Have only had for a couple of weeks now but am impressed. I recommend this CM to anyone looking to improve their current coffee maker.

Customer Review: Yes, It made good Coffee--- for a while, but......
Summary: 2 Stars

Yes, it seemed to make decent coffee. I should hope so. It's a Cuisinart. Not the cheap Mr. Coffee type coffee maker.
Yes, we cleaned it. We went through the regular scheduled cleaning with vinegar and water. It's a pain, but you have to do it.
It has now been over 2 years and now it stopped working. Seems like the buildup of minerals in the water feed to the brewing container has gotten clogged in spite of the cleaning. There is no way to take it apart or fix it. I guess you just have to heave these things after a few years. Might as well either buy a really cheap one. I thougt Cuisinart would have been built better than that. Then it doesn't hurt so much to heave it. OR you have to go higher end. We ended up buying a Bunn this time. More expensive, yes, but the whole mechanism is built to be cleaned well with the de-liming tool. Unlike the Cuisinart you can actually get in there with the tool and clean out all that crap.
Reviews of the Bunn seem to indicate that they last about 10 to 15 years. I guess that in the long run it should be cheaper. The coffee even tastes better on the Bunn. Not as elegant, but what's more important, Looks or taste?

Customer Review: Meets Expectations - Good performance in Price Range
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had the product for one month. Thus far it has performed as expected. Looks extremely good in a kitchen with stainless steel appliances. The metallic mesh filter, for those who've only used paper filters, has been a good experience and is a valuable addition to this unit. Nice feature allows water to be at the correct temperature for coffee-making even when only making 1-4 cups (a setting allows you to tell it so). The things that other reviewers mentioned as concerns, I do not share. I believe the unit is well designed and does what it's supposed to. Making good coffee is probably about 33% the machine (getting temperature right during brew), 33% the quality of the water you put into it, and 33% the quality of the coffee (freshness and coarseness of grind, etc.). This machine does it's part.

Customer Review: Great Coffeemaker
Summary: 4 Stars

The Cuisinart DCC-1200 Coffeemaker is a great appliance.
This is the second one I have had. When the first stopped
functioning due to a bad switch after a number of years I
saw no reason to switch to another brand. Try it, you'll
like it.
