Customer Review: Thoroughly impressed!

UPDATE 2: It's now April 2011. The grinder lasted 5 years. Actually, it WOULD have lasted longer, but some helpful person used water to clean it, rather than just using a brush or slightly damp paper towel. How do I know? Because after I tried to use it and could see and hear that the motor was seized, I inspected the grinder and rusty water came out from the space between the metal basin and plastic casing. :( We used the heck out of that grinder to grind coffee, nuts, sesame seeds, spices, and even made powdered sugar out of granulated sugar. I was sad to see it die. And yes, we did buy another one to replace it. Got it in white this time. And I'll be keeping it away from any "helpful" cleaners. :)
UPDATE: It's now 10/2008 and the grinder is still going strong! I'm still grinding coffee in it regularly, occasioanally almonds, and sometimes softer spices like dried peppers. It's doing great! I am so impressed with this model. When (and if!) it ever dies, I'll get the same kind again, if possible. :-) Added another star from my original 4 star review.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm puzzled by the low rating and negative reviews. I think this is the best grinder in this price range. Since I will never spend >$50 for a grinder, I guess I'll never know what I'm missing. I've had this grinder for about 16 months, and use it 4 or 5 times a week. It makes perfectly satisfactory grounds for me. I will note that I think it works better if you "pulse" grind rather than just hold the button down non-stop. I haven't noticed the surface being any more of a smudge magnet than any other type of surface. It is dry coffee grounds, after all. Just wipe it with a paper towel and you're done. I have also ground almonds in it, in small amounts for cake recipes, not frequently, but enough to know it works for that function. It has not dulled the blades as far as I can tell. It doesn't seem like it's gotten noisier either, but then I'm indifferent as long as an appliance isn't piercingly loud or sounds like it's going to blow up. Ok, now the parts I don't like. The cord is kind of bulky and stiff, and makes it difficult to store or get out of the way on the counter. The top of the unit is a pain if you want to clean it with more than a damp paper towel. If I wash it with soapy water, I have to disassemble it in order to make sure no moisture stays trapped in it. However, it rarely needs that thorough of a cleaning. Usually a slightly damp paper towel is enough. Having tried other grinders in this price range and cheaper ones and being unhappy with those, I'm sticking with this one. I think it grinds great and that's what I wanted it for. The cosmetics and design are unimportant to me. I recommend this model.
