Several people have commented on the grounds and coffee spilling onto the counter during brewing. This happened to me and it was because the filter housing unit popped open (it does not securely click in place when you close it). So I got one of my new black stretchy headbands out and put it on the top of the coffee maker to keep the filter unit from opening-no problem since. This flaw is the only negative I have for this unit. Otherwise, I like it and the thermal carafe does keep the coffee hot for a long time. I bought a factory refurbished Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker with thermal carafe. two years ago at the Christmas Tree Shop for $49. It was the best coffee maker we had had in a long time. The taste of the coffee, when it didn't sit on a warmer for extended periods, was very much to our liking. And the fact that it would make 12 cups, was an efficient design and easy to clean all contributed to our liking. The coffee maker continued to work well but something went wrong with the thermal carafe; coffee only stayed hot for less than two hours. I could've replaced just the carafe but decided to change to a white color and start brand new. I read other reviews and could not figure out why people were having trouble closing the ground coffee container so that it worked properly. Never had that problem and our coffee stays hot in our new coffee maker purchased through Amazon for 5-6 hours. Amazing.Customer Review: cuisinart coffeemaker w/thermos

I just bought this product and used it for the first time today. I am very impressed. Made great coffee and kept it hot far longer than I needed without the burn of a hot plate.
It fits nicely under the cabinets but does need to be pulled out to be filled, and turned sideways so the cover can be lifted. A bit of a pain but not catastrophic.
I am obsessive about unplugging appliances when not in use so clearly the clock stops and displays incorrect time. Wish it had a AA battery back up for the clock when unplugged.
The screw-on top for the carafe is too easy to misalign the threads and improperly assemble the carafe and top. Awaremess makes it better but caution is required. I think this is the reason for all the "coffee all over the counter complaints" a misalignment is not real obvious.
The one sacrifice for thermal intergity is the lack of quick sight as to how much coffee is left in the carafe. Do not have any ideas on this one other than a sight gage on the carafe.
I am pleased with this product, I am happy I bought it and would reccommend it to others.

I am so glad I bought this. It is by far the best coffee maker I've ever had. Why? the thermal pot. It keeps coffee hot for hours and the last cup tastes as good as the first one. There are some negatives in some reviews about overfilling and the lid. Neither are worries if you follow the instructions and secure the lid carefully you'll be fine and enjoy great coffee, every time.
