Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart SM-55BK 5-1/2-Quart 12-Speed Stand Mixer, Black

Customer Review: First looked at KitchenAid
Summary: 4 Stars

We've only used it about 4 or 5 times so far, heavy cookie dough, and bread dough included. In terms of power, this machine has a lot! Our one concern is the strength of the base hinge. So far no problems, but with heavy loads, the point where the frame hinges, shows quite a bit of movement. Hence, 4 stars rather than 5.

Customer Review: Good mixer, but extremely poor customer service
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this mixer Feb. 2009 and enjoyed it's capabilities for making cookiew, cakes, breads, meat loaves, mashed potatoes and also purchased the juicer attachment and made some mixed drinks with the fresh squeezed oranges, lemons and limes from time to time. I have to say that the unit was a fine functioning appliance, until it wasn't...
Around the beginning of November, I was using the mixer to make a whole wheat bread dough with the dough hook. The dough was kneading along nicely at speed 2 for less than a few minutes. It had begun to adhere to the hook in a ball indicating that it was finished kneading. Likewize, I stopped the mixer and attempted to remove the dough hook and the clump of dough, except the hook would not come off the mixer. I proceded to pull the dough off the hook and continued baking the bread. I went back to the mixer to try to remove the hook once again, and once again I was unsuccessful. It appeared the hook had gotten completely wedged into the port where it attaches and simply would not budge. I called Cuisinart's technical support help line and they had absolutely nothing of value to tell me. They were as perplexed as I was.
Being that I had the mixer for less than a year, it was still under warranty from the manufacturer (the store I had purchased it from was out of business). I obtained an RMA and at my expense, sent my mixer to Cuisinart's repair facility in New Jersey (which by the way, is also a Conair repair facility, apparently Cuisinart is owned by hair dryer makers). According to UPS tracking, Cuisinart received the mixer November 10th. Cuisinart's policy is to have the appliance repaired or replaced within 4 to 6 weeks. Around November 20th, having received no communication from Cuisinart that they at least received the mixer, I called their customer service line to try to get an update. They were unaware that the mixer had been sent to them and were nasty to me on the phone when I asked to get some answers. I proceded to make one call every week. During these phone conversations, no one has been able to tell me where the mixer is, what kind of work has been done on it, when I can expect it to be returned to me, or even that they have it in their possession! During the last 2 phone calls that were placed, the customer service representatives told me that I would receive a credit for the now lost mixer and that this credit voucher had been mailed December 13th. It is now December 17th, and I have yet to receive my mixer, a phone call, this 'supposed' credit in the mail, or any other professional contact from this horrible company that stole my $270 mixer! Unbelievable company! Would never buy another Cuisinart product as long as I live!

Customer Review: My Cuisinart Stand Mixer
Summary: 5 Stars

Oh where to start? My husband bought me the first stand mixer I have ever owned after 37 years of marriage. I never really felt I needed to spend that much money on a mixer that takes up room on your counter. Boy! was I wrong. I wish this was an item that I had years ago. Our daughter and my twin sister both have the Kitchen aide Stand Mixer and both love them, so I decided maybe there was something to this mixer. My husband started researching the difference between the two mixers and then asked me which one I would like to have. I just love the way the Cuisinart looked and the features along with the timer. As soon as I received the mixer, I took it out of the box, watched the DVD that was included with it and then washed the parts and set it on my counter. I looks lovely on my counter and doesn't take that much room on my counter as I thought! I received my mixer on December 3, 2009 and have used my mixer to make bread 3 times, a cake twice, 2 kinds of cookies, filling for the cake and the frosting for the sugar cookies and spritz that I am going to make today. Neither one of us are overweight, but if I continue to bake, we might be! No not really, I love bake with my grandchildren and will let them bring the cookies home.

So, to wrap it up I would say 4 words about my Cuisinart Stand Mixer: Love, Love, Love It!

Customer Review: love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

this is the first stand mixer I ever purchased, and I did a lot of research on line, it's very easy to use and clean up is great and the ease of using the mixer is great,I csn actually double my bread recipe, love the time it saves me from not having to do so much mixing of the bread dough with my hand mixer, because it is a very dense dough, I would reccomend it to anyone who loves to bake. Customer Review: Awesome and Powerful!
Summary: 5 Stars

I compared several brands of stand mixers and chose this Cuisinart mainly for its 800 watts of power over the KitchenAid's 300 watts, for only about $40 more. I was NOT disappointed with my decision to spend the extra money. The Cuisinart mixer is by far the most attractive, easy to clean, uncomplicated machine I've added to my kitchen in a long time. I've since purchased the meat grinder attachment and my husband has enjoyed showing off its marvelous speed to his hunting buddies as we use a lot of venison in our household. I'm awaiting the delivery of my free food processor attachment (another reason for my decision to purchase this machine). I bake almost every day and it's just a snap to mix up my cookies, cakes, breads and pies.
