Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart SM-55BK 5-1/2-Quart 12-Speed Stand Mixer, BlackCustomer Review: limited capacity Summary: 3 StarsI've been using this mixer for 2 months, mainly for making bread. The bowl is large enough but the attachments are surprisingly small and extend deep into the bowl. Bread dough almost always climbs up over the guard and wraps around the shaft with any substantial 2-3 loaf recipes. I wish I had gotten the larger model or perhaps the Viking.
Customer Review: Incredible Mixer! Summary: 5 StarsI was close to buying the KitchenAid brand, but after a lot of research, I bought this CuisinArt, as it has much better ratings (check out Consumer Reports). The warranty is much better too. The mixer is very sturdy and heavy, you can turn it on and you don't need to hold it - it does not wobble. The attachments are metallic, which is a plus, considering the other brands have plastic attachments. It also has a timer and a "Fold" option button.
Customer Review: Fabulous! Summary: 5 StarsI absolutely love this item. I never felt I really needed one but a friend encouraged me to try it. I do a lot of baking and it is wonderful to be able to measure and pour ingredients in while the batter is still beating instead of having to add each egg and beat after. What a timesaver. I have now ordered the food processor and can't and blender attachement and can't wait to have one appliance to do it all.
Customer Review: Heavy, but great. Summary: 4 StarsI have used this mixer for doughs and cake and cookie batter. For me it has worked great, even the dough (more than 2 lbs of flour). My only complaints, and only reasons for not giving it 5 stars are 1) like all other mixers I have ever tried, you have to scrape the sides and get dough off the hook and then run it again for a little while. It's not really a problem or that annoying, just wish it wasn't necessary. 2) It can be a bit heavy, and although this is not an issue for me at the moment, I would think someone older, or with arthritis for example, they would probably need help moving it. The bowl and utensils are not heavy, but the base is. 3) The splash guard just sits on top of the bowl, flat. I just wish it had a little lip that would fit inside the bowl in case of splashing.
To make sure potential buyers are aware, it does not come with the extra attachments, like the food processor or meat grinder or anything, all of those have to be bought seperately, and they can be quite expensive. [...]
I have so far washed everything in the dishwasher and had no problems. The only thing is it looked like there was a little rust inside the base of the bowl. I know it is stainless steel, but perhaps the welding material is not, so if you put it in the dishwasher, be aware that the bowl will fill up with water a little in the base, and maybe just pour it out quickly and not let it sit, to be on the safe side.
I would absolutely recommend this mixer, and just for those who may need it, be aware it is heavy.
Customer Review: Fabulous Mixer! Summary: 5 StarsI have a Kitchenaid but read the oustanding reviews the Cuisinart has been recieving. It blows KA well...out of the kitchen. My daughter now has my KA mixer. I don't think you will be sorry. A sound investment!
