Customer Review: Waffles Cooking Unevenly May Be Due To Voltage Variance

To all those reviewers who found waffle makers cooking unevenly, please note that electrical devices such as these depend on a steady and constant voltage coming out of your household outlet. Different outlets in the same house and at different times of the day provide voltages that could vary between 116 and 124 volts and this variation is perfectly normal and does not affect non-cooking items. It DOES, however, affect items such as waffle makers, coffee brewing machines, coffee bean roasters, and other electrical cooking items requiring very exact temperatures during short and specific time periods. Without a voltage meter attached to your outlet, you cannot see physical evidence of this variance. I discovered this problem years ago and now have a voltage meter attached to one of my kitchen outlets. To test another outlet, I just switch it over to the other outlet. Of course, if the voltage changes during the cooking period in question, you still would not notice it unless you kept your eyes glued to the meter the whole time. Restaurants and other professional establishments use voltage regulators to circumvent this problem. The waffles coming out of my Cuisinart WAF-4B turn out perfectly every time, but I do not use the unit when my voltage meter reads 119 or lower (this reading is with the unit plugged in and turned on). If none of this information helps resolve your problem, then your unit may, indeed, be defective.
